Dr. Brenda S. Houmard enjoys helping people through the emotional ups and downs of the fertility treatment journey, and describes it as one of the most gratifying aspects of her work. Seeing patients for the first time and giving them hope that their experience will be successful is something she finds very rewarding.
Dr. Houmard brings over twenty years of award-winning experience to SRM. Prior to joining the SRM team, Dr. Houmard spent 15 years as an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, where her focus on patient and physician education resulted in leadership roles in patient safety and electronic medical records adaptation. She is committed to fostering stronger understanding by patients and specialists of fertility issues, evaluations, and treatments.
Dr. Houmard completed her REI fellowship training under SRM founding partners Dr. Nancy Klein and Dr. Michael Soules. Dr. Houmard’s research recognitions include the American Society for Reproductive Medicine/Ortho-McNeil Award and the NIH-NICHD and Wyeth-Ayerst Reproductive Scientist Development Program. Her academic and teaching careers garnered numerous local and national educational awards, and she was named a Seattle Top Doc in both 2011 and 2012. She is board certified in OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Published in professional journals including Fertility & Sterility, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, the Biology of Reproduction, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Molecular Human Reproduction, Endocrinology and others, Dr. Houmard has also contributed chapters to four professional-level books focusing on female reproduction issues.
In addition to being a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society and the Seattle Gynecologic Society, Dr. Houmard is founding member of the Spokane OBGYN Society and on the Board of Directors for the Spokane County Medical Society. Prior to her postgraduate Fellowship in REI at the University of Washington, Dr. Houmard completed her undergraduate biology work and received both a PhD in Reproductive Physiology and MD degree from The Ohio State University.
